Before visiting here, we tried few other "top recommended" places and they were all dissapointment. Especially the one that is practically next to Orion. As we could have experienced (and been informed by the friends whom have been on the island before), Samos is not famous with sea food. Nothing is "bad", but definitely few leagues down compared to other islands and mainland. And it is the other way around if you visit Samos. Almost %70-%80 of locals eat red meat at a restaurant and it is for a reason. People love to eat red meat, gyros (couldn't find a good one either, not even the "famous" place at the main square) and lots of grilled pork options. So Orion was like finding oasis at desert. Not particularly for the island, but is a "top notch" restaurant anywhere in the world. The owner, the chef Miss Paulina (yes we chatted a lot, after reaching the gastro-heaven) created a classy place with great food, classy design, and a superb clean kitchen. As I am in the same business, I have checked few indicators from outside while we were speaking and it is probably one of the best I have seen. Yes, the portions are big but the main determiner is the taste. Whatever we ordered had a small touch of chef Paulina and all classic Greek cuisine shifted to a new level without loosing the origins. Orion is in a lovely quiet side street setting with a pleasant atmosphere. The menu contains some unusual polish dishes created by business owner Paulina, and everything we ate in two visits was freshly prepared and delicious. For me the highlight was an apple cake baked especially to create a dessert suitable for my dairy intolerance. Great service and so customer focussed. All week I had been craving lamb and waited until my last night of the holiday and very glad I chose Orion to sate that need! Food was excellent, really tasty, service was good and the menu has an excellent range, can definitely recommend the sausage starter dish and the lamb was everything I was hoping for. Ambience was good too as just one road back from the main "strip". I found the portions to be generous and the prices represent excellent value for money. Would have gone again but closed Sunday night and the Monday as it was a bank Holiday. Most of our hotel ate there several times. The food was superb especially the belly pork ....soft and the best I've ever tasted. The 2nd time I tackled the pork Tomahawk steak which was equally delicious. The lady (owner) was absolutely great. We had a good chat to her although she was constantly busy. I can honestly say if your in Vathy visit this lovely establishment. It's super value for money in fact probably too cheap.....the standard of food is very good. Thank-you for a lovely time spent. Good luck for the future and we hope to visit again soon .
